Engagement rate formula
The engagement rate compares total interactions to follower size:
Engagement Rate =
(Likes + Comments) ÷ Followers × 100
(Likes + Comments) ÷ Followers × 100
This keeps the comparison fair, so you can evaluate creators of different sizes on the same scale.
Example calculation
Imagine a post with:
(1,200 + 80) ÷ 25,000 × 100
= 5.12% engagement rate
= 5.12% engagement rate

Frequently asked questions
What is a good engagement rate?
It depends on the platform and niche, but many brands consider 1%–5% a solid baseline. Micro-creators often perform higher, while very large accounts can see lower rates due to audience scale.
What counts as engagement?
This calculator focuses on likes and comments, which are the most commonly reported metrics. Some brands also include saves, shares, or clicks depending on the platform.
Why use engagement rate instead of total likes?
Engagement rate normalizes performance by audience size. It helps you compare creators fairly, even if one has 10,000 followers and another has 1,000,000.
Can I automate this inside Avalan?
Yes. Avalan automatically pulls engagement and follower data, calculates engagement rate, and helps you shortlist creators with the best performance.
